Delicious Dhaal

A very simple dish to make yet absolutely tasty and aromatic. This dhaal is delicious served in a bowl with pappadums and natural yoghurt or even served over fragrant rice, noodles or couscous !


  • 1 large onion, finely chopped
  • 2 garlic cloves, crushed
  • 2 teaspoons grated ginger
  • 2 teaspoons Screaming Seeds 'Kashmiri Krush'
  • 1 cup red lentils
  • 3.5 cups vegie or chicken stock
  • 3/4 cup coconut milk (optional)


  1. Saute onion, garlic and ginger until soft for 5 minutes;
  2. Add Screaming Seeds 'Kashmiri Krush' & saute for a further 5 minutes;
  3. Add red lentils, stirring into onion/garlic/spice mixture for 3 minutes then add stock;
  4. Partially cover and simmer gently for 30 mins or until lentils are soft and liquid is nearly absorbed.
  5. Add more stock if too dry or as needed.
  6. If using coconut milk, stir in & heat just before serving.

....  For this recipe, if I don't have  'Kashmiri Krush'  in my pantry, what other SCREAMING SEEDS spice blend could I use instead?
