BANGLA DHAL
‘East Indian Style Lentils’


“Steamed rice (or bread) and dhal (lentils) is the basic diet of most Indians, from farmers to wealthy landlords.  A nutritious combination of carbohydrates and protein, this particular recipe uses aromatic spices to tempt the palate.”


Ingredients:

1 cup masoor dhal (red lentils)
1 tablespoon oil
1 tablespoon Screaming Seeds  ‘Bengal Five Spice’
1 tablespoon ginger, finely chopped
1 lemon, juiced
salt to taste
coriander leaves to garnish


Method:

  • Cook the lentils until completely soft, adding as much water as needed

  • Heat the oil and add the Screaming Seeds ‘Bengal Five Spice’

  • When the mustard seeds ‘splutter’ add the ginger

  • Season with salt and pour in the lentils. Simmer for a couple of minutes

  • When it has cooled slightly, add the lemon juice and garnish with coriander leaves

  • Serve hot
